Are You Counting the Days or Making the Days Count?

movetoaction

The next two to three minutes will change the way you view and, more importantly, value your time!

There are only 8 more days until Christmas; 15 more days until the New Year; and 380 days to the conclusion of 2021. What are you preparing to do to make 2021 different from 2020? Do you have a plan? Is it floating around somewhere in your head, or have you articulated and memorialized your plan to keep yourself accountable? It has been said that you plan to fail, when you fail to plan - keep that in mind!

When are you going to start your plan? Today? Tomorrow? Next Week? Or are you going to be like most and plan to start on January 1st....until you remember it's a national holiday?

Let's talk about time - Time, generally speaking, is inherently infinite, but not for us! Our time is definitely finite! There are only 24 hours in each day (I wish there were 35-40!) and fortunately or unfortunately, we spend a significant portion of those hours sleeping. Did you realize or ever think about the fact that there are only 168 hours in a week? What are you doing with your 168 hours in each week? Take the time to think about it and break it down by the number of hours spent on each of the following activities (calculate the time per day and multiply by 7); then add the hours to see how much time is left over for leisure. You might be surprised by the outcome.

Here is a little help in constructing your list - make personal adjustments as needed:

  • Sleep

  • Work/School

  • Personal Hygiene

  • Eating/Preparing Meals

  • Spiritual Commitments

  • Hobbies/Exercise

  • Friends & Family Time (Don't forget about the four-legged family members)

  • Entertainment

  • Shopping/Errands

  • Social Media

How are you feeling about the allocation of your 168 hours? Was it a reality-check?Might some adjustments be needed? It might be time to get busy!

We must remember that tomorrow is not promised and we should make the most of the time we are given. The most important time between the day we are born and the day we die, is the dash between those two all important dates. What is your dash, or your life, going to stand for? What will you have accomplished? Who will you have helped? Whose life will you have positively impacted? What bucket list items will you have checked off? Will you have created a legacy by which to be remembered?

Perhaps, this exercise puts things in a little different perspective, as it pertains to our time and purpose. While you may counting the days to an upcoming holiday, birthday, anniversary, or the New Year, be sure to make the days count!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
